Why it needs its own entry
If a call with a parent is folded into an adjustment note, it counts as an adjustment and the Consultation pillar shows nothing. Readiness then holds the whole record back, even though the conversation happened.
What a strong entry includes
- Who: the student, a parent or carer, or a teacher or colleague.
- How: the way you consulted, such as in person, by phone or by email.
- What was agreed: the decision, not the whole conversation.
- Follow-up: the next step, and who is doing it.
When parents weren't consulted
From 2026, the NCCD Guidelines ask schools to document why, if parents, guardians or carers weren't consulted. A brief explanation is enough, and agreement isn't required. In the log screen, choose Couldn't consult yet and give the reason, so it sits with the student's record.
