What this guide covers
- what imputed disability means in Superadjust
- how to record the student without a formal diagnosis
- how the Needs Profile step works
- what to check before you start logging evidence
This guide shows you how to record imputed disability in Superadjust when a student needs disability-related support but does not have a formal diagnosis. This matters because the platform can still store the student's support need and diagnosis state clearly, without blocking the rest of the profile.
Context: A formal diagnosis is not required. NCCD recognises 'imputed' disability — a functional need identified through observation alone. Superadjust lets you record this directly in the Needs Profile step when adding a student.
Step 1: Understand what "imputed" means
Use imputed when the disability-related need is inferred from evidence and professional judgement, rather than confirmed by a formal diagnosis.
- 1.Open the Add student flow and complete the basic details.
- 2.Navigate to the Needs Profile step (marked as Optional).
- 3.Look for the question: 'Does this student have a confirmed diagnosis?'
- 4.Do not leave the student undocumented just because diagnosis paperwork is missing.
When to use each diagnosis status
| Status | When to use | Evidence basis |
|---|---|---|
| Yes — confirmed | A formal diagnosis exists from a medical or psychological professional. | Diagnosis report, specialist letter, or medical documentation. |
| Not confirmed (Imputed) | The disability-related need is inferred from evidence and professional judgement. | Teacher observations, functional assessments, classroom data. |
| Prefer not to say | The diagnosis status is not being recorded at this time. | Profile can still be completed without specifying diagnosis status. |
Step 2: Select "Not confirmed (Imputed)"
In the Needs Profile step, you will see three options for diagnosis status. Select 'Not confirmed (Imputed)' when the student needs support but does not have a formal diagnosis.
The Needs Profile step showing "Not confirmed (Imputed)" selected with NCCD category options
- 1.Select 'Not confirmed (Imputed)' from the diagnosis options.
- 2.Choose an NCCD Category from the grid: Cognitive, Social-Emotional, Sensory, Physical, Multiple/Complex, or Not sure yet.
- 3.You can change the NCCD category later if needed.
- 4.Click 'Add student' to save the profile.
The NCCD category describes the reporting category. The diagnosis status describes certainty. Set each one separately.
Step 3: Complete the rest of the student profile
An imputed disability record can still be saved and used in the wider workflow.
- 1.Review the breadcrumb chips at the top showing the student's details (name, year level, adjustment level).
- 2.If your school uses coordinator review, the nomination will be sent for approval.
- 3.Save the student record by clicking 'Add student'.
- 4.Review the profile before logging evidence so the support context is clear from the start.
Why this matters
A student can still be documented and supported in Superadjust without a formal diagnosis. Recording the profile as imputed keeps the support need visible and lets the rest of the evidence workflow continue cleanly.
Common mistake
Leaving diagnosis status blank or treating imputed disability as the same thing as the NCCD category. Diagnosis status describes certainty. NCCD category describes the reporting category. They are different fields with different jobs.
What to do next
Once the profile is saved, review the student record and then move on to evidence logging. If your school uses coordinator review, also check whether any other core fields still need confirmation before you treat the record as final.
